Emil’s Latest Show
Emil Baumann, Philadelphia artist and life-long Powelton Village resident, has not stopped his travels into the colorful, magic world of fantasy, which he shares with us in this show. His abstract compositions burst with vivid colors. His whimsical combinations and treatments display his adventurous spirit, inexhaustible imagination and desire to experiment with new techniques.
He titles the show, “The Colors of My Fantasy World II” but not the individual pieces, leaving it up to the viewer to offer a subjective interpretation of the expressive abstract images.
Emil Baumann’s work has been shown locally at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), Nexus Gallery, Community Education Center (CEC), University City Arts League, Haverford School Centennial Hall Gallery, Art on the Avenue Gallery, Goggleworks Gallery in Reading, PA and other well-regarded venues. Internationally, he exhibited his work at two prestigious Art Galleries in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was awarded two prizes for his painting.
His experiences in Kenya, his apprenticeship and exchanges with Kenyan artists, seem to have been crucial for his formation as an artist. Other travels and his own dreams have been credited as sources of inspiration for his work. In Philadelphia, Emil Baumann has taken classes at Fleisher Arts Memorial, Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts and the University City Arts League Ceramic Studio.
Emil has also been working in clay, producing ceramic pieces as colorful and whimsical as his paintings. Also worth mentioning, is his collaboration with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Project, and the result is a large-size abstract mural project, at 36th Street and Lancaster Avenue.
